My name is Michael A. Knipp and I'm a 2003 graduate of RC. On Dec. 11, I will participate in Shiver in the River, a kind of polar bear plunge, to raise funds for Special Olympics Maryland. As everyone in the upper East knows, winters are bitter, so swimming is insane--especially since the rules only permit swim trunks to be worn--but when it's paired with an amazing cause, the feeling is enough to create inner warmth. I hope that you can help keep me toasty as I take the dive into the frigid depths of a Chesapeake Bay tributary.
I'm sending this message seeking donations for this wonderful philanthropy. Without continued funding from people just like you, intellectually disabled children wouldn't have the chance to lead a life like we have. That's why it's so important to assist in anyway way we can--to show our thanks for our relatively easy existence. Every time I look at my nephew, Bryan, who has Down syndrome, I wish the best for his future. And now, I have a tiny chance to make a small impact--with your generosity.
I know the holidays can be a pinch on the pockets, but even the smallest contribution will be appreciated by these strong-willed boys and girls. All checks should be made payable to Special Olympics Maryland and all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Contributions should be remitted to the address below.
This holiday season I'm giving back to those who have given me so much in the way of their smiles and constant inspiration, although they face daily adversity. I hope you will, too.
